Abstract This chapter presents the purpose and structure of immersion experiences, which provide clients with real-world opportunities to practice self-knowledge, self-determination, and self-regulation skills aligned with their individual goals. It outlines diverse activities across independent living, employment, education, and social domains, emphasizing individualized planning, minimal but sufficient support, and postactivity reflection to reinforce learning. The chapter details essential skills developed during immersion, including explaining needs, managing stress, seeking help, engaging in self-care, and recognizing personal strengths and challenges. It introduces four support modules—Making the Most of the Immersion Experience, Addressing Challenges, Noticing and Awareness, and Processing Post-Immersion—which guide preparation, coping strategies, observation, and reflection. Finally, the chapter underscores that immersion experiences aim not at exposure to feared situations but at empowering clients to act independently, integrate learned skills, and progress meaningfully toward their personal goals.
