Abstract This chapter introduces the STEPS program, which establishes rapport with the client, explains the program’s purpose, and guides completion of the Needs Assessment to shape future sessions. It emphasizes building trust, clarifying confidentiality, and helping the client identify personal goals through discussion and structured tools such as the STEPS Overview, Personal Strengths, and Needs Assessment worksheets. The chapter explains the program’s evidence-based, cognitive-behavioral approach, which focuses on three main areas—self-knowledge, selfdetermination, and self-regulation—while tailoring activities to the client’s individual strengths and challenges. It also includes psychoeducation on autism spectrum disorder, encouraging self-awareness and understanding of its impact, followed by a reflective essay assignment to promote insight and communication skills. Finally, the chapter details practical arrangements for session schedules, check-ins, and coach involvement to ensure that both client and coach are prepared to engage actively in the STEPS process.
