Abstract This chapter introduces the goals of helping clients understand the value of effective problem-solving, develop positive attitudes toward challenges, and prepare for their first immersion experience. It explains problem-solving as a universal human skill that influences academic, emotional, and social success and guides clients to identify and analyze personal problems using the Values and Goals and Needs Assessment worksheets. The chapter details the ADAPT model—Attitude, Define, Alternatives, Predict, Try Out—as a structured and recursive framework for developing and testing solutions while fostering positive thinking and emotional awareness. It also outlines how to plan and organize the first immersion experience by setting concrete goals, anticipating needs, and addressing potential anxieties or logistical concerns. Finally, the chapter assigns practice activities that reinforce positive problem-solving attitudes, ensure collaboration with the client’s coach, and establish follow-up plans for continued progress.
