This paper describes a rare Pterynotus from the water of northwestern West Australia collected by remotely operated vehicle. At present, there are only four known specimens of Pterynotus stricklandi Zheng and Maxwell, sp. nov., which have similar colour and morphological features. The new species is described based on morphology and differs with its distinctive spiral threads and fluted fronds. This species adds to the growing number of recently discovered taxa that has resulted from remotely operated vehicle exploratory expeditions targeting Mollusca, and it is only with the generosity of those explorers that papers such as this are made possible.
