As Laboratory Animal Science continues to evolve so do the tasks that the people working in vivariums are required to perform. Many of the tasks are support tasks that don’t directly involve working with animals but do require a broad knowledge base spanning material, material handling, sanitation procedures, and safe operation of many types of equipment. This chapter discusses some of the most commonly encountered chemicals, materials, material handling, miscellaneous equipment, and sanitation equipment that will be encountered in vivariums.
