True story: The editors of the book realized at one point during its writing that the folks doing the actual tasks at the “heart” of the animal research facility—in the cage washing and processing unit—did not have a focused chapter attributed to them. This chapter, thus rectified, aligns with the training chapter and informs managers and administrators about the true complexity of the job and how to develop careers for those who provide the clean components for an animal’s environment and study results derived from that contribution.
