Artificial Intelligence (AI) has promoted significant advances in the development of technologies aimed at communicative accessibility, particularly through its application to the automatic recognition of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). In this context, this article aims to analyze the technological advances of Artificial Intelligence applied to Libras sign recognition, discussing its contributions to communicative accessibility as well as the technical, linguistic, and ethical challenges that still limit its consolidation. The study is characterized as a qualitative, descriptive bibliographic research based on the analysis of books, scientific articles, official documents, and national and international academic publications related to Artificial Intelligence, computer vision, machine learning, deep learning, assistive technologies, and Libras. The findings indicate that the evolution of intelligent algorithms, combined with artificial neural networks, computer vision, and deep learning techniques, has significantly improved the accuracy of sign recognition systems, fostering the development of automatic translators, mobile applications, and digital platforms designed to facilitate communication between deaf and hearing people. However, important challenges remain regarding the linguistic complexity of Libras, regional variations in signs, the limited availability of representative datasets, algorithmic bias, and ethical issues associated with the use of these technologies. It is concluded that Artificial Intelligence has considerable potential to enhance communicative accessibility and strengthen the social inclusion of the deaf community, provided that its development is guided by the principles of universal accessibility, inclusion, respect for linguistic rights, and the active participation of the deaf community in the design of technological solutions.
