A method has been developed for the determination of platinum in (Pt, Ni, Al) turnings sample using Axial viewing inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometric technique. Platinum being noble and inert metal finds applications in many fields in the form of metal and alloys. Hence its quantification becomes highly important. For the present studies, it was necessary to determine Pt in (Pt, Ni, Al) turnings sample. Using Axial ICP-AES unit, the most suitable interference free analytical line for Pt was found to be 212.861nm. Also, Ni 232.003nm and Al at 308.215nm were selected as the best analytical lines for their determinations, being the major elements in the sample. The calibration plots were obtained for Pt, Ni and Al using appropriate standards. The detection limits for these elements were found to be 0.0542 μg/mL for Pt, 0.068 μg/mL for Ni and 0.006 μg/mL for Al. Subsequently the analysis of (Pt, Ni, Al) turnings real-life sample was carried out by ICP-AES for the determination of Pt along with Ni and Al with precision around 2% RSD and better.
