Transitions in PhD education and careers are dynamic, continuous, disruptive, progressive, and evolving. This is demonstrated through the research presented in the chapters of this compilation. Here we synthesise the accumulated knowledge and wisdom and pinpoint lessons learned about transitions in the PhD, Post-PhD, and late career as well as transitions in the individual and the social domains. Based on the synthesis, we propose a model for understanding transitions in research education and careers in contemporary society. We end by identifying a research agenda as a roadmap for the continued development of research education and careers.
