This chapter is dedicated to the analysis of one-dimensional radar signals, introducing the reader to essential tools in both the frequency domain and the time-frequency domain. It starts with a presentation of the Fourier transform, discussing its fundamental properties and relevance to radar applications, and provides examples of its use in interpreting typical one-dimensional radar responses. Building on this, the chapter introduces the Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) as a method for analyzing nonstationary signals, illustrating how it enhances radar interpretation, especially when dealing with time-varying or multicomponent echoes. The text then examines advanced energy-concentration techniques, such as reassignment and synchrosqueezing, which significantly improve the readability and sharpness of time-frequency representations, proving highly beneficial for analyzing complex, time-varying radar returns. Finally, the chapter presents methods for parameter estimation and decomposition of nonstationary and multicomponent signals, enabling detailed insight into the structure of radar returns. These components collectively provide a comprehensive introduction to modern one-dimensional radar signal analysis.
