UUVs and Sensors

Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) are equipped with an array of sensors and payloads that enable them to collect data about the underwater environment. This chapter reviews the current state of sensor and payload technology on AUVs, outlines the factors affecting sensor selection, discusses typical power, weight, and space requirements, and presents futuristic and emerging sensor technologies. Typical UUV sensor configurations are discussed.
