原始摘要(英文原文)· Original abstract
This chapter presents a comprehensive historical and technical overview of aerospace propulsion systems, tracing their evolution from early aerodynamic and structural concepts to modern propulsion technologies. The review begins with pioneering activities in ancient Egypt and China, followed by key conceptual and experimental milestones introduced by Leonardo da Vinci, Branca, Newton, and Barber. The development of flight vehicles and reciprocating engines from the eighteenth through the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries is examined, culminating in the transformative contributions of the Wright brothers and significant advances through the 1930s. This chapter then focuses on jet propulsion, highlighting the seminal work of Sir Frank Whittle and Dr. Hans von Ohain, and systematically reviews turbojet, turboprop, turboshaft, turbofan, propfan, pulsejet, ramjet, and scramjet engines, as well as industrial gas turbines. Detailed classifications of aerospace, jet, and gas turbine engines are provided. The final sections address rockets (or non-airbreathing engines) and introduce electric aircraft propulsion, including fully electric, hybrid-electric, turboelectric, and distributed propulsion systems, with emphasis on operational characteristics, comparative performance, and future technological trends. This chapter provides readers with an overview of aircraft and rocket propulsion systems and their enduring impact on aeronautics.
