Biomanufacturing indicates the process of large-scale production of biological goods such as vaccines, vitamins, hormones, monoclonal antibodies, and other bio-based items. Bio-manufacturing products have great ability to treat severe disease conditions and chronic disease management. But biomanufacturing products have a lot of challenges. The major challenges are scalability, relatability, and sterility. And also, biomanufacturing is a complex process compared to other pharmaceutical manufacturing, such as tablets, capsules, parenteral preparations, etc. Because the starting material used for biomanufacturing has a large and complex molecular structure compared to conventional pharmaceutical starting material. So, the process of manufacturing is highly complicated in precise condition. And these limitations are reduced by the integration of smart techniques during biomanufacturing. Smart approaches are the integration of artificial intelligence technologies such as artificial neural networks, support vector machines, genetic algorithms, and post-swarm optimization. During the biomanufacturing process, the incorporation of automation lessens individual misconceptions. A microfluidic device, a liquid handling system, is an example of an automatic device used in the process of biomanufacturing. Additionally, blockchain technology for proper data management and a single-time-use bioreactor system produce quality products. The above smart techniques make the biomanufacturing process easier, reduce the product cost, and make it affordable for middle- to low-income people. This chapter provides wide knowledge about automation, AI-based processes, and lean technology involved in bio-manufacturing.
