Navigating technology adoption in small businesses operating in a South African township

The integration of Information and Communications Technology has become essential for business operations globally, including small businesses in South African townships.The rapid technological advancements and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic have accelerated the need for digital integration.This study employs a qualitative methodology, analysing thirty academic publications post-COVID-19, to explore the use of technology in township small businesses.While technology adoption has been linked to business success, its utilisation in township businesses remains partial due to various challenges such as digital illiteracy, infrastructural constraints, and a lack of clear policies.The study highlights the benefits of technology integration and calls for future research to identify optimal technological solutions for small businesses in townships.It also emphasises the need for targeted support, including policy frameworks, training programmes, and infrastructural improvements, to enhance digital adoption in these environments.
