Simile Imagery in the Poetry of Qasim Shati

This study examines the use of simile imagery in the poetry of the contemporary Iraqi poet Qasim Shati, with the aim of identifying its most significant artistic and semantic manifestations within his poetic experience. The research begins by establishing the theoretical foundations of poetic and simile imagery in both classical and modern Arabic criticism, highlighting the evolution of simile from a traditional rhetorical device into an expressive technique that contributes to the construction of meaning and the enrichment of poetic vision. Adopting a descriptive-analytical approach, the study analyzes selected poems by Qasim Shati to explore the patterns of simile and their aesthetic and semantic functions. The findings reveal that simile constitutes a fundamental structural element in the poet’s work, playing a vital role in embodying psychological and emotional experiences while endowing the poetic text with symbolic and suggestive dimensions that transcend direct description. The study further demonstrates that Shati employs innovative forms of simile that often intersect with metaphor and symbolism, reflecting the distinctiveness of his poetic vision and his ability to create evocative images that articulate his perceptions of the self, reality, and homeland. Consequently, simile imagery emerges as one of the principal artistic pillars underpinning the construction of his poetic discourse. ------------------------------------------------------- الصورة التشبيهية في شعر قاسم شاتي غادة نعيم حسن كاظم العرداوي1*، وسام محمد منشد1 1كلية التربية، جامعة القادسية، ديوانية، العراق الملخص يهدف هذا البحث إلى دراسة الصورة التشبيهية في شعر الشاعر العراقي المعاصر قاسم شاتي، والكشف عن أبرز تجلياتها الفنية والدلالية في تجربته الشعرية. وقد انطلق البحث من تأصيل مفهوم الصورة الشعرية والصورة التشبيهية في النقدين العربي القديم والحديث، مع بيان تطور وظيفة التشبيه من أداة بلاغية تقليدية إلى وسيلة تعبيرية تسهم في بناء المعنى وإثراء الرؤية الشعرية. واعتمدت الدراسة المنهج الوصفي التحليلي من خلال تحليل نماذج مختارة من قصائد الشاعر، للكشف عن أنماط التشبيه ووظائفه الجمالية والدلالية. وتوصلت الدراسة إلى أن التشبيه يشكل عنصراً بنائياً فاعلاً في شعر قاسم شاتي، إذ يسهم في تجسيد التجارب النفسية والوجدانية، ويمنح النص الشعري أبعاداً رمزية وإيحائية تتجاوز حدود الوصف المباشر. كما أظهرت النتائج أن الشاعر يوظف التشبيه بصيغ حديثة تتداخل مع الاستعارة والرمز، بما يعكس خصوصية تجربته الشعرية وقدرته على تشكيل صور مبتكرة تعبر عن رؤيته للذات والواقع والوطن. ومن ثمّ، تتجلى الصورة التشبيهية بوصفها إحدى الركائز الفنية الأساسية في بناء خطابه الشعري. الكلمات المفتاحية: الصورة التشبيهية، الصورة الشعرية، قاسم شاتي، الشعر العراقي المعاصر، التشبيه -------------------------------------------------------
