Sociocultural and Religious Aspects of the Ancient Olympic Games

This article explores the phenomenon of the Ancient Greek Olympic Games as a pivotal mechanism in the formation of cultural and religious identity within the ancient world. The study analyzes the role of the Games in facilitating peace among city-states (poleis), the evolution of athletic disciplines, and the influence of social hierarchy on participant selection criteria.
