Recurrent deep vein thrombosis in an adolescent.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in children, although rare, has shown an increase in incidence associated with a rise in risk factors. We report the case of a 17-year-old female patient with recurrent thrombosis complicated by pulmonary thromboembolism and post-thrombotic syndrome. Several risk factors were identified, including age, a sedentary lifestyle, use of combined oral contraceptives, a heterozygous mutation in factor V Leiden, and May-Thurner syndrome. This case highlights the need for a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of pediatric DVT and the importance of implementing measures for the prevention and early diagnosis of post-thrombotic syndrome.
