This study analyzed how rural extension and technical assistance influence aquaculture development in the state of Pará through an integrative literature review. The analyzed studies show that the consolidation of aquaculture depends not only on the state’s water and productive potential, but also on the articulation among credit, regulation, training, productive organization and market access. The findings indicate that technical assistance plays a structuring role by reducing management weaknesses, improving planning capacity, connecting producers to public policies and supporting greater production stability. The review also revealed that the constraints affecting aquaculture vary across territories and include logistical limitations, restricted access to financing, discontinuity of technical support, organizational fragility and commercialization barriers. It is concluded that rural extension and technical assistance should not be understood merely as operational support, but as a central axis of aquaculture governance in Pará, linking production, territory, public policy and market. The study highlights the need for continuous, specialized and territorially sensitive actions capable of reducing the gap between the state’s productive potential and the effective consolidation of aquaculture.
