This article analyzes specific historical events related to the attitude toward time in the Muscovite state in the 17th century. Problems associated with the introduction of mechanical clocks into everyday life and the formation of a stratum of artisan watchmakers are highlighted. It is concluded that the attitude toward time in the Muscovite state underwent significant changes compared to previous periods (the 15th and 16th centuries). It is hypothesized that the widespread use of various types of clocks was linked to the transformations in public life that occurred after the Time of Troubles and the increasing complexity of the state system. Based on an analysis of specific legal documents and other sources, it is shown that time began to play a significant role in the activities of state administration bodies, in legal proceedings, and in the performance of official duties by individual officials.
