The world's first hybrid commutated converter has achieved commercial commissioning

The world's first hybrid commutated converter (HCC)—a next-generation high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission valve based on integrated gate commutated thyristor (IGCT) technology—officially commenced commercial operation at the Lingbao Converter Station in Henan Province, China, on December 28, 2025, as shown in Figure 1. This milestone signifies the resolution of the “commutation failure” challenge that has plagued global HVDC transmission systems for over half a century.
