Temporal Directionality and the Governance Relation

This paper argues that the experienced arrow of time — the asymmetry between past and future, the irreversibility of macroscopic processes, and the directional flow of conscious experience — is neither a fundamental feature of the physical substrate nor an illusion of subjective perspective. Rather, it is a structural consequence of the persistent realignment cycle operating between the deterministic lattice of potential (𝐿1) and the finite informational layer (𝐼2) within the Dual-Layered Reality (DLR) framework. The argument identifies this realignment cycle as the fundamental ontological engine of temporal directionality: substrate-information actively realigns with available unique nodes in the lattice; embodied-information accumulates structural complexity through lived experience; and at the dissolution of informational carriers, this accumulated structure returns to the collective reservoir, permanently compounding the compatibility weighting (𝑊𝑡) that conditions all subsequent realignments. Standard thermodynamic and cognitive markers of temporal asymmetry — entropy gradients, the felt flow of experience — are downstream manifestations of this engine, not independent phenomena. The derivation requires no contingent assumption about cosmological initial conditions: the arrow of time is generated by what reality structurally is, not by where it began. Consistency with time-symmetric microphysical laws is preserved by locating the asymmetry not in the dynamics of 𝐿1 but in the irreversible exhaustion of opportunity for novel actualization at the 𝐿1 / 𝐼2 interface. The argument establishes a structural account rather than an empirical hypothesis.
