¡Carnaval del Diablo! is a symbiosis between the clarinet and certain electronic sound elements derived from the official anthem of the Carnaval de Riosucio, celebrated every two years in that same town in the central mountain range of Colombia. The clarinet breathes life into this piece and gives it an almost telluric force, inspired by a friendly and playful devil. The composer suggests that the performer wear a devil mask and dance energetically in certain sections of the work, so as to imbue the performance with a carnivalesque and near-theatrical character. The fixed media starts the dialogue, which the clarinet will later join and which continues until the end. The electronic sounds constitute an essential part of the work and reinforce its festive and hedonistic character.
