To analyze the relationship between the nursing work environment and the incidence of Burnout syndrome. A search strategy was conducted according to the recommendations of the Joanna Briggs Institute. The databases used were PubMed via Medline, Lilacs, and Scielo, with the terms “Burnout”; “Nursing”; “Working conditions” and the use of boolean operators AND and OR. The results revealed that the work environment is a catalyst for the onset of Burnout syndrome or professional exhaustion, due to poor professional appreciation, excessive workload, physical and mental fatigue, lack of staff rotation, all contributing to the illness of nursing professionals. The work environment is the main cause of professional exhaustion in nursing, as the overload of tasks, poor infrastructure, lack of staff rotation, and low wages negatively impact emotions, professional appreciation, and harm both the body and mind of nursing professionals.
