The integration of renewable energy resources into energy systems is providing an alternative and more reliable solution to the increasing overall energy demand. However, the intermittency of the renewable energy resources creates challenges for grid integration. Therefore, to make the renewable energy resources more sustainable, renewable energy storage systems are being developed. This chapter covers the technological interdependence of renewable energy resources and storage systems currently in practice. The system-level integration methods, key mechanisms being used, and the current advancements relating to the sustainable energy systems are being discussed in this chapter. In order to have a better understanding of the integration of renewable energy storage systems with renewable energy technologies, a case study is also part of this chapter. Overall, this chapter outlines the significant role in advancing renewable energy storage systems, enhancing renewable energy technologies, and providing more sustainability.
