Chlamydia trachomatis Infection as a Risk Factor for Ovarian Carcinoma.

Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) is the most common global cause of bacterial sexually transmitted infection. CT is a common cause of mucopurulent cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease. This review examines the epidemiologic, serologic, mechanistic, and meta-analytic evidence linking CT infection as a risk factor for ovarian cancer. Further study of the role of CT infection in ovarian cancer risk is warranted.
