Research at the Core of Professional Case Management Practice: Reflections on The HeartBeat in Case Management Department, Research Series 2025–2026

ABSTRACT: This article reflects on the Professional Case Management Journal's HeartBeat of Case Management Research Series (2025-2026), which positioned research as an essential component of professional case management practice. The series emphasized research literacy, outcomes measurement, health equity, whole-person care, and evidence-based leadership as critical competencies for the evolving workforce. Through practical examples and expert perspectives, the columns demonstrated how case managers contribute to and apply research to improve quality, safety, patient experience, and population health outcomes. The series reinforced that professional case managers are both consumers and creators of evidence, advancing innovation, accountability, and health care transformation through data-informed practice.
