Abstract This chapter develops the young autistic adult’s (YAA’s) understanding of how rigid or unhelpful thinking patterns hinder behavior and obstruct personal goals. It guides the YAA to identify counterproductive thoughts and replace them with more constructive, goal-oriented perspectives through strategies such as reappraisal or reframing. The chapter emphasizes that reframing enhances cognitive flexibility, enabling individuals to approach challenges with adaptability and persistence. It also encourages supporters to engage the YAA in reflective discussions about their thoughts, model self-compassion, and demonstrate that perfection is not required for progress. Finally, the chapter reinforces that individuals can reinterpret their thoughts and choose how much importance to assign to them, fostering resilience and emotional balance.
