Technology integration: impact to students’ learning engagement in higher education institutions

The study aimed to assess how the integration of technology influenced students’ learning engagement in higher education institutions in the Zamboanga Peninsula. A total of 341 students from five institutions participated in the survey. The study utilized two tools for data collection: one focused on the five stages of technology integration (entry, adoption, adaptation, infusion and transformation) and the other on learning engagement, which includes cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. The findings revealed that students’ learning was moderate, with technology integrated into their learning activities across the five stages. The incorporation of technology positively influenced student engagement. The study recommends that HEI administrators invest in necessary tools and technology access, plan for effective ICT integration, and ensure educators possess diverse skills to enhance technology use. Furthermore, flexibility with submission dates and encouraging pupils to exhibit their learning abilities are recommended. Continuous research on education quality, in addition to technological integration, is encouraged to improve student learning results.
