Noise, Pre-Individual Potentialities, and the Post-Biological

In her response to Daniel Butler’s “Say Anything: Noise, Tenderness and the Rift between the Saying and the Said,” Patricia Clough takes up Butler’s conceptualization of individuation and extends it to meet current philosophical thinking about the individual, the body, biology and technology. Following Butler’s elaboration of noise as central to psychoanalytic practice, Clough addresses the relevancy of noise in our work with patients in terms of the now of current socio-political-economic conditions.
