Investigating academics’ intention to adopt cloud computing through the integration of DOIT and PMT in HEIs

This paper aims the dimension that impact academics’ intention to use the “Cloud computing” (CC) technology in the “Higher Education Institutions” (HEIs) in Jordan. Understanding the potential of CC in transforming the education space, this study combines the “Diffusion of Innovation Theory” (DOIT) with the “Protection Motivation Theory” (PMT) to facilitate the advancement of a comprehensive theoretical framework on CC adoption. The data was obtained using an online survey that was administered to a sample of academics in the Jordanian HEIs. Data was analyzed using “Structural Equation Modelling” (SEM). The findings presented in this study indicate that “Threat Appraisals, Telepresence and Relative advantages, Trail ability, and Observability” have a positive impact on academics’ intention to use CC technology. Additionally, “Complexity” was not found to have any correlation with ‘‘Intention to use” CC technology within HEIs. The results of the study are valuable insights into the conditions that can facilitate and hamper CC implementation in a higher education context and give practical recommendations to institutions that are interested in the effective application of CC technology in their educational practices.
