Rapid advances in sequencing technologies and genomics pipelines have opened new avenues for applications in crop improvement. In this chapter, we have summarized the progress made in pathogen and pest management in wheat driven by genetic and genomic approaches, including genetic mapping, marker-assisted selection (MAS), positional cloning, genome sequencing, association mapping, genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS), genomic selection, mutagenesis, TILLING/MutRenSeq, gene editing and RNA interference (RNAi). Examples of each of these aspects in wheat have been presented, along with the appropriate techniques used to achieve the specific goals. The chapter highlights the potential of these technologies to improve global food security by promoting the sustainable management of pathogens and pests.
