Sn( ii ) and Ni(0) in a stannylene → Ni complex cooperatively activate H 2 , leading to Sn–C/H–H bond metathesis. The formed H-bridged nickela-stannylene is indicative of net reduction at Sn, via a formal oxidative addition/reductive elimination process.
