Desalination of seawater is a large and growing source of potable water on which many communities in arid regions are dependent.Maintaining the total dissolved solids content of this water within regulated levels is important for maintaining public confidence in the quality of the water supply.Water with low total dissolved solids is corrosive to transmission and distribution systems and has an undesirable taste.The Saudi Water Authority is committed to meeting the regulated lower bound for total dissolved solids in the most cost-effective manner possible, and this work outlines several case studies of different strategies employed at desalination plants within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in order to make this information publicly available for the assistance of operators of desalination plants worldwide.
