Chapter 1 introduces the core idea that consumption and marketing are intrinsically interrelated and must be examined together to understand contemporary market dynamics. It first outlines a classical framework of consumption analysis, emphasizing three pillars: consumer psychology, consumer socioculture, and consumer decision. It then reviews the development of the marketing plan, including situation analysis, objectives, consumer analysis, competitive positioning, value proposition, marketing mix, implementation plan, financial analysis, and evaluation. Against this backdrop, the chapter introduces mindfulness – its origins, contemporary applications, and growing role in business – and extends it into the domains of consumption and marketing. The contrast between current growth-driven models, with stimulated demand and exchanged value, and a mindful model, with recognized demand and shared value, is highlighted. The chapter concludes by presenting mindful consumption and marketing as a complementary framework that preserves innovation and choice while redirecting markets toward balanced, sustainable development and enhanced well-being.
