The evaluation of the effectiveness of febrile seizure training given to parents of children aged 6 months to 5 years.

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of video-based education provided via QR code to parents of hospitalised children aged 6 months to 5 years regarding febrile seizures. DESIGN AND METHODS: The study was designed as a randomised controlled trial. The sample consisted of 76 parents whose children were admitted to the pediatric ward of a state hospital between 29 November 2024 and 17 March 2025. Data were collected using a descriptive data form, a febrile seizure information scale for parents/caregivers, an informative video about febrile seizures, and an informative brochure. The intervention group received video training accessed via a QR code placed in the brochure. RESULTS: There was no significant difference between the intervention and control groups in the sub-dimensions and total mean scores of the Febrile Seizure Knowledge Level Scale prior to the training programme (p > 0.05); however, a significant difference in favour of the intervention group was found between the mean scores of the post-training final test and the retention test (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Research findings indicate that video training accessed via QR codes significantly increases parents' knowledge levels and that this effect is sustainable. It has been determined that QR code-supported video training, a digital and accessible method, is an effective and lasting method for informing parents about febrile seizure. IMPLICATION FOR CLINICAL PRACTICE: The findings of this study indicate that QR code-based video training can be effectively integrated into routine pediatric healthcare services as a practical and accessible method for educating parents about febrile seizures.
