ABSTRACT This study investigates heat and mass transfer characteristics of an unsteady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow past a vertical porous plate, including the effects of viscous dissipation, thermal radiation, and thermodiffusion. The governing equations for momentum, energy, and concentration are formulated in dimensionless form and solved using a multiple perturbation method. Approximate solutions for the velocity, temperature, and concentration fields are obtained. The influence of pertinent physical parameters such as magnetic field strength, radiation parameter, viscous dissipation, and thermodiffusion on the transport characteristics is examined through graphical and numerical analyses. The results show that thermodiffusion enhances mass transfer, while viscous dissipation increases the fluid temperature. It is also observed that higher thermal radiation reduces the rate of heat transfer at the plate. The present analysis is relevant to heat and mass transfer processes in MHD flows encountered in engineering and industrial applications.
