Sinicization of the Moral Competence Scale for Home Care Nurses and its reliability and validity test

ObjectiveTo translate the Moral Competence Scale for Home Care Nurses(MCSHCN) into Chinese and to test its reliability and validity among community home⁃visit nurses.MethodsAccording to the Brislin translation model,the MCSHCN was translated,back⁃translated,culturally adapted,and pre-surveyed to develop the Chinese version.A convenience sampling method was used to recruit 498 community home-visit nurses from Hangzhou city,Zhejiang province.The construct validity,content validity,internal consistency,and split⁃half reliability of the Chinese version of the MCSHCN were tested.ResultsThe Chinese version of the MCSHCN consisted of 5 dimensions and 45 items.Exploratory factor analysis extracted 5 common factors,with a cumulative variance contribution rate of 66.856%.Confirmatory analysis model fitting indicators,χ²/ν=1.725,RMSEA=0.052,GFI=0.801,NFI=0.800,TLI=0.899,and CFI=0.904.The scale⁃level content validity index(S⁃CVI) was 0.985.The item⁃level content validity index(I⁃CVI) ranged from 0.833 to 1.000.The Cronbach's α coefficient of the scale was 0.969.The split-half reliability was 0.868.ConclusionsThe Chinese version of the MCSHCN for home care nurses has good reliability and validity.It could be used as an effective tool to evaluate the moral competence of home-visit nurses in China.
