Effect of Integrated Approach of Yoga and Naturopathy Intervention in Mastalgia - A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Mastalgia is a benign breast disorder, affecting up to 70% of women of reproductive age. Though symptomatic improvement is obtained with pharmacological management, they do not address underlying lifestyle, hormonal, and psychological issues. The application of integrative methods, including yoga and naturopathy, to cyclical mastalgia is not well established. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of a 10-day Integrative Yoga and Naturopathy Therapy (IYNT) protocol on pain and symptom relief in a case of cyclical mastalgia. METHOD: A 35-year-old woman with left-sided cyclical mastalgia for the past 7 months was treated with a 10-day IYNT program. The intervention includes daily yoga sessions, naturopathy therapies, and diet. Pre- and post-intervention assessments were conducted based on subjective symptom relief and quality of life improvement. RESULTS: After 10 days of intervention, the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score for breast pain reduced from 8/10 to 2/10, and the Cardiff Breast Pain Chart (CBPC) grading improved from Grade III to Grade I, indicating marked symptomatic improvement. The patient discontinued analgesic medication, and no adverse effects were observed. CONCLUSION: Naturopathy and yoga-based intervention may provide an effective non-pharmacological approach in the management of cyclical mastalgia. The case indicates that complementary therapies may be utilized to manage breast pain; however, further studies are warranted.
