Changes in Knowledge Patterns of Students at State Junior High School 40 Samarinda, East Kalimantan Regarding HIV/AIDS Before and After Education

In Indonesia, HIV/AIDS cases are increasing among adolescents, requiring health education efforts to improve understanding of prevention. The “AMAN” health promotion activity: HIV/AIDS Prevention was carried out among students at State Junior High School 40 Samarinda through education aimed at increasing knowledge about the definition, progression of the disease, modes of transmission, symptoms, prevention, and treatment of HIV/AIDS. This outreach activity was conducted by providing educational leaflets and PowerPoint presentations, as well as measuring knowledge levels through pre-tests and post-tests. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge after the education was provided. Before the activity, the majority of respondents were in the “understand” category (82.97%), and only 6.38% were in the “very understand” category. After the education, the proportion of respondents who were very knowledgeable increased to 40.43%, while those in the less knowledgeable category decreased to 2.13%. This increase reflects that education using visual and print media is effective in improving adolescents' understanding of HIV/AIDS. This health promotion can be a preventive measure to reduce the risk of HIV/AIDS transmission among adolescents by increasing health literacy.
