UTILIZATION OF ASSURE MODEL INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN IN FACILITATING EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION IN NIGERIA

The need for Social Studies teachers to create structured instructional activities for students through learner centred lesson cannot be overemphasized. This underscores the rationale social studies teachers to ensure the adoption and application of instructional designs. Instructional design permit the process for quality and indebt learning experiences for learners; it accommodate individual differences among the students in the areas of readiness, interest, needs etc. however, ASSURE model is an instructional design that implies analyze learners characteristics, state objectives, select methods for instruction, utilize media, refers to the require learner participation and evaluate or revision. It facilitate learning performance, increase students’ engagement in the learning process, permit suitability of selected subject matter or learning content and support realtime evaluation. This will result to production of empowered students motivated for civic engagement, national unity, reflective/critical thinking, inquiry skills, and national goal oriented activities. As a result, this article titled “utilization of ASSURE model instructional design in facilitating effective teaching and learning of social studies in Nigeria.
