LES URGENCES UROLOGIQUES DANS LE SERVICE DE CHIRURGIE GENERALE DU CENTRE DE SANTE DE REFERENCE DU 6ieme ARRONDISSEMENT DU DISTRICT DE BAMAKO:À propos de 200 patients.

Abstract Introduction: Urological emergencies are pathological conditions of the urinary tract, where functional and/or vital prognosis is at risk if appropriate and effective treatment is not provided as quickly as possible. These emergencies are characterized by severe pain requiring significant relief.Objective: To study urological emergencies admitted to the general surgery department of the Reference Health Center (CSRef) in Commune VI of the Bamako district.Methodology: A prospective study was conducted over a 14-month period, from December 1, 2020, to February 28, 2022. All patients presenting with a clinical manifestation related to urological emergencies were included in our study.Results:We collected data on 200 patients who underwent surgery for urological emergencies and consulted at the reference health center in Commune VI of Bamako. The Bambara ethnic group was the most represented.The most represented profession was farmer, with 28 cases.The most frequent reason for consultation was the inability to urinate, at 33.21%. Urinary schistosomiasis was the most common medical history, at 54.67%, while appendectomy was the most common surgical history, at 41.17%. Pain on palpation was the most common physical symptom, at 45.04%. Digital rectal examination was normal in 44.5% of cases.Urinary retention was the most frequent urological emergency, at 44.5% of cases. Benign prostatic hyperplasia was the most frequent cause of urinary retention, at 34.84% of cases.Bladder trauma was the most frequent type of trauma, at 60% of cases. The most frequently performed radiological examination was abdominal-pelvic ultrasound in 69.23% of cases.Most patients were treated on an outpatient basis (55%) after initial management.Bladder catheterization was the most frequently performed emergency procedure, occurring in 49.5% of cases.The most common surgical intervention was lithotomy, performed in 9 patients, with a favorable outcome in 84% of these patients.Conclusion: Urological emergencies are frequently encountered by urologists in their daily practice and constitute a public health problem.Our study on urological emergencies was conducted in the surgical department of the Commune VI reference health center over a 14-month period, from December 1, 2020, to February 28, 2022, using prospective data collection.Keywords: Urological emergency, Acute retention, Pain
