Individuality And Variability In Handwriting: Their Significance In Forensic Identification

This article discusses about how a penmanship evolved since 20th century and neuro-science behind developing individualistic handwriting features.It studies the principles of handwriting in detail followed by the role of intra-variations in handwriting of an individual.Inter and intra-variabilities in handwriting due to many factors may produce some difficulties while identifying the authentication.But some of the studies reviewed in this concerned paper depicted few similarities which could be analysed subjectively to identify the authenticity.Intra-variabilities in the handwriting can be a curse or the boon as these variabilities can be the major individualistic characters which every forensic document examiner can subjectively analyse.In forensic examination, understanding both individuality and variability helps distinguish genuine differences from normal fluctuations and supports reliable identification of the writer.
