An annotated and illustrated checklist of the Apidae (Hymenoptera: Apoidea: Anthophila) of Hong Kong (China)

An annotated and illustrated checklist of 23 species and four morphospecies in fve subfamilies and nine tribes of Apidae (Hymenoptera: Apoidea: Anthophila) recorded from Hong Kong is presented, discussed and illustrated here, of which 19 species and four morphospecies are new records for the territory. Short annotations on their taxonomy (when needed), biology (if known), and on historical records are also provided, complemented by distributional data. Tis list forms an important baseline to track the faunal changes of Apidae in Hong Kong but also more broadly in Southeast Asia, a region of the world experiencing major anthropogenic changes of its environment and biota.
