Two new species of Keiferia Busck (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) from North and Central America

We describe two new species of Keiferia Busck (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae): K. trixivora Eiseman and Landry, new species, from the USA (California), Mexico, and Costa Rica, whose larvae are leafminers of Trixis californica Kellogg (Asteraceae), and K. feldmani Eiseman and Landry, new species, from the USA (Massachusetts and North Carolina), a leafminer of Solanum carolinense L. (Solanaceae). A tree hypothesis based on maximum-likelihood analysis of the COI barcode region places K. trixivora in monophyly with respect to K. azapaensis Vargas from Chile, whose host plant is Trixis cacalioides D. Don. Keiferia feldmani is in monophyly with respect to K. inconspicuella (Murtfeldt) from the eastern USA, which feeds on Solanum L. species including S. carolinense.
