Objective: Analyze how the role of teachers in the teaching of English as a foreign language has changed due to artificial intelligence (AI). This includes discussing the educational benefits, ethical dilemmas, and additional job tasks that educators perform in digital teaching environments. Methodology: A qualitative approach was employed using a document review design. The academic literature from 2023 to 2019 was analyzed using the Dimensions.ai database. The articles were selected based on a combination of relevance to the topic, timeliness, and academic rigor. Results: The research has shown that AI tools, chatbots, adaptive learning platforms, and voice recognition development tools have aided in the development of language skills by providing immediate feedback throughout the learning process. At the same time, AI tools have changed the role of teachers, moving them away from content delivery and toward pedagogical mediation, fostering critical thinking and creating meaningful learning experiences. Additionally, ethical challenges were identified regarding equitable access to technology, data privacy, and algorithmic transparency. Conclusions: Teaching English with AI technological tools in education has changed the role of teachers, but it has not replaced them. Educators now must possess an enhanced set of digital skills, educational skills, and teaching skills. It is suggested to conduct more practical research to evaluate how these technologies impact areas with low technological access and sociocultural diversity.
