Prospective Mathematics Teachers’ Commognition in Problem Posing

This study aims to explore prospective mathematics teachers’commognition in problem posing. This is a descriptive study using a qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were students in the Mathematics Education program at University in Surabaya. The subjects selected were low-ability students based on the results of a problem-solving test. The instruments used were a problem-solving test sheet, a problem-formulation test sheet, and student interview guidelines. The data were analyzed in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The validity of the research results was tested using data triangulation. Participants with low proficiency demonstrate incomplete understanding when formulating mathematical problems. They are able to use mathematical terminology and employ mathematical symbols and representations to convey ideas accurately, but their problem-solving procedures lack detail, and their explanations of concepts, reasoning and relationships between mathematical concepts are unclear.
