In the rapidly advancing maritime industry, where technological innovation and global trade drive operational progress, the health and safety of crew members - particularly fitters, welders, machinists, and engine room maintenance personnel - are often given less priority than machinery upgrades or fuel efficiency improvements. Despite advances in ship design and automation, many shipboard mechanical workers remain exposed to ergonomic hazards such as awkward postures, repetitive manual tasks, confinedspaces, and vibration-heavy tools. These conditions significantly increase the risk of developing work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), one of the most commonly reported occupational illnesses among seafarers worldwide.
