Typology of Community Participation in the Development of Patakan Temple in Lamongan Regency

Participation is an important aspect in the development of tourism potential owned by the community. Participation is the key to the sustainability of local destination development, especially in particular. However, most of the dynamics of participation have not been able to accommodate the needs and potentials of the community. This study examines the typology of the participation of the Pataan Village community in developing local heritage tourism in Patakan Temple. This study seeks to answer two main questions of the research, namely How is the typology of participation that runs in the development of local heritage tourism in Pataan Temple? Based on participation theory that conceptualizes seven typologies of community participation with the potential in the field, this study adopts a qualitative approach through case study studies. Data was collected using observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving key informants assigned based on their abilities. The findings show that the participation that runs in the development of local tourism at Patakan Temple is still at the stage of passive participation, the community does not yet have the power and authority to manage and even make decisions. In fact, the community already has great potential, namely awareness and high contribution to participate in activities or programs provided by the village and district governments.
