Quality of Work Life among Industrial Workers: Assessing the Influence of Labour Welfare Measures in Palakkad District

Abstract - Quality of Work Life (QWL) has emerged as a critical determinant of employee well-being and organizational effectiveness, particularly in manufacturing industries where labour welfare practices play a vital role in shaping employees' workplace experiences. The present study examined the influence of labour welfare measures on the Quality of Work Life among industrial workers in Palakkad District, Kerala. A quantitative, cross-sectional survey research design was adopted, and primary data were collected from 392 industrial workers employed in organized manufacturing units using a structured questionnaire. The study considered six labour welfare dimensions—Work Environment, Work–Life Balance, Job Security, Welfare Facilities, Supervisor Support, and Career Development—as predictors of Quality of Work Life. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics Version 29.0, employing descriptive statistics and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis. The findings revealed that labour welfare dimensions exerted a statistically significant positive influence on employees’ QWL, with the regression model explaining 74.6% of the variance in the dependent variable (R2 = 0.746, p < 0.001). Among the predictors, Work Environment, Work–Life Balance, and Job Security emerged as the most significant contributors to Quality of Work Life. The study highlights the importance of strengthening labour welfare initiatives to enhance employee well-being, organizational commitment, and sustainable industrial performance. The findings provide valuable implications for industrial managers, human resource professionals, and policymakers in developing employee-centric labour welfare strategies that promote a productive and sustainable workplace.
