Sustaining quality of maternity care in transition

This thesis examines how large-scale organisational stressors influence the organisation, quality, and experience of maternity care. The work focuses on two major system-level stressors: the centralisation of acute obstetric care and the COVID-19 pandemic. By studying these distinct but comparable forms of system transition, this thesis aims to generate insight into the conditions under which high-quality maternity care can be sustained during periods of change, with particular attention to the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
